Precision Nutrition Announcement
This is the email where we are going to tell you about what we’ve been working on.
To be honest I couldn’t find anything that I liked and I was building my own series of nutrition planning. Everything we found wasn’t working for most people, consistently. As some of you know, I really like Renaissance Periodization and their philosophies. A few years ago we had an RP representative come in and give a seminar. It was pretty awesome. I personally used RP for one of my weight cuts to get to 77kg and we actually had an RP template giveaway about a year ago. I know that a few RP templates have been bouncing around our community for a number of years and we’ve had quite a few people try it out for a period of time.
“Everything we found wasn’t working for most people…”
For those of you that don’t know, RP is basically a macro counting system that has you eating a meal every 4 hours. Pretty much everyone that I’ve spoken with has said that eating every 4 hours is essentially impossible no matter what their job or vocation is. And everyone has stopped using RP at some point after they lost weight or they just gave up because periodizing their eating was way too hard. So, RP hasn’t worked for us as a community outside of specific goal oriented circumstances.
Working Against Gravity is another popular nutrition template. You’ve no doubt seen it on some of the more active social media accounts of CrossFit Games athletes. We’ve had a few of our athletes use it in the past and it’s basically the same program as RP. The problem with RP is that they simply send out a few PDFs as well as an excel sheet and you are on your own. WAG has a little more outreach and tries to connect you with a trainer to help with accountability. The problem is that it’s not someone you see or that you know and it’s a subscription based service with a high price point. Again, it has worked for short spurts of time and then has been neglected by those that have purchased it.
“…you are on your own.”
As many of you know I am very passionate about this gym; I’ve built all the tables, chairs, and desks and painted all the walls. I’m not really interested in taking shortcuts or having other people do work that I can do. So I set about making a nutrition template. It turns out that it’s REALLY hard to do the way I want it done. I wanted there to be functionality in our program, a realistic way of maintaining weight loss, and most importantly, I wanted accountability and access to the coaches at all times. Spreadsheets weren’t going to work. It was turning into a very upsetting amalgamation of templates, videos, and Facebook forums. I wasn’t happy with what I had made.
We then found a coaching platform that is everything I wanted mine to be but it had already been made. And it was WAY better than what I had created.
It took about a month of convincing but I decided to outsource this part of our program. I haven’t outsourced anything up to this point and it was a difficult step for me. For those of you that don’t know, I am as averse to being sold anything. I think everything is a scam; if a store asks for my number they get 123456789 and my address is NO. With all of this being said, I am usually the last person to be excited about something like this.
We have partnered with Precision Nutrition as our source of nutrition planning and coaching. Should they want it, everyone will have access to PN’s platform.
At its simplest form, Precision Nutrition is an online coaching platform. There are a lot of online platforms, but in this case, all of your data and your written answers (which you do daily) go to the coaches that you already know. They have built a 12-month curriculum that focuses on teaching you good nutritional and lifestyle practices to help you achieve your goals by creating different habitual patterns.
“…go to the coaches that you already know.”
We are going to do a small video on what the program looks like so that people interested in participating can see it in action. Every day you’re going to have about 15 minutes of nutrition homework. You’ll be practicing one habit for two weeks and part of your homework is checking on whether you maintained your habit or not. One of the goals of the program is to break your complex nutritional goals into small, strategic daily practices that add up to body transformation. You’ll develop healthy habits that become second nature and last a lifetime.
There is an initial questionnaire that gives us a very good idea of what your goals are and what you view your strengths and weaknesses to be. It allows us to see how you’re feeling about yourself in a non-invasive way. We’ll be able to see what you’re interested in achieving and then we can send you the steps to achieve it. The cool part is that we can interact with you through the platform and in person. This will allow you to ask questions in person or through the platform.
“…we can send you the steps to achieve it.
I’ve alluded to some of the main points already but this is not a macro or calorie counting system. You use the naked eye to determine your portion sizes after we lay out what those portion sizes should be, based on who you are. And again, one of the coolest things about this is that it’s designed to change your behavior and alter habits instead of having you just stop eating one of your favorite foods. Lastly, just to reiterate the point, these are Verdant coaches that will be looking at your results and helping you moving forward.
